Refrigeration & Air Conditioning systems containing more than 3kg (6kg if Hermetically sealed and labeled) of Fluorinated Gas (F-Gas) or 3kg of an Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) Refrigerant need regular leak checks. The leak check frequency will vary depending on the total Refrigerant charge and the leak checks have to be carried out by qualified personnel which at Celsius Climate Solutions we are qualified to do so.
We always make sure we follow strict guidelines, as we are F-Gas certified and REFCOM registered.
As of 1st January 2015, R22 systems are no longer repairable if the system has a leak of if the refrigerant needs to be taken out to carry out the repair. The refrigerant can be removed if required but cannot then be reused. In instances where a system has broken down, it will require replacement. In most cases we can reuse the pipework by flushing it out, this would then mean a replacement would be very cost effective and save having to deal with too much disruption to your environment. In almost every case, a replacement system would be so beneficial as new modern Inverter driven technology and new refrigerants are extremely efficient and cost effective.
Its likely that if your air conditioning equipment is more than 12 years old, it will not only be inefficient but it will more than likely contain a refrigerant called R22. Due to government legislation, the refrigerant R22 has been, over the last few years, phased out and the final date for the sale of R22 is Jan 2015 and this is all due to its environmental impact. Some companies will lead you to believe that this means your system needs to be replaced immediately; fortunately this is not the case.
Here is what you need to know:
R22 gas will not be available after the end of 2014. This means if an R22 system breaks down after this point, depending on the cause of the breakdown, repair may not be possible. Upgrading now will give you a chance to prepare a minimum disruption plan – rather than a stressful rush in the event of a breakdown. Bear in mind that the average lifespan of an AC system is 10-12 years. If your system is at the older end of the scale, a replacement plan may well be your best option.
We can help you achieve a smooth, hassle-free transition to a new energy efficient system – and get ahead of the game. We’ve already helped many clients upgrade
